The Super Mario Odyssey Lullaby on One Guitar: Melody and Chords From a Plumber's Softest Moment

The tenderest tune Nintendo hid behind a hat-throwing plumber.

Super Mario Odyssey is a game where a moustachioed plumber throws his sentient hat at reality until physics quietly gives up. So it's genuinely rude that the thing which made me put down the controller was a 30-second lullaby, tucked away in Fossil Falls like Nintendo was daring me not to feel anything.

This little clip is a MelodyChords arrangement of that gentle theme — the one drifting through Fossil Falls, the Cascade Kingdom and the Darker Side. Melody and chords, both handled by one guitar, no band required. If you liked my Animal Crossing take, this is the sleepier, weepier cousin.

How this MelodyChords arrangement works

MelodyChords is my favourite party trick: one guitar pretending to be two players. Your thumb holds down the bass note and the chord underneath, while your fingers pick out the actual lullaby melody on the top strings. The rule that makes it sing is brutally simple — the melody note must always be the highest, loudest note in every grip. The moment the accompaniment starts shouting over the tune, your ear loses the plot and it just sounds like someone warming up.

The theme itself is disarmingly simple — slow, diatonic, gently rocking like a cradle — which is exactly why it's such good practice. There's nowhere to hide. Keep the bass landing softly on the beat, let the melody breathe on top, and six strings suddenly sound like three imaginary instruments. If you want the same trick applied to other tunes, my whole MelodyChords approach lives here.

Yes, I learned a Nintendo lullaby instead of actually sleeping. No regrets — well, one small regret, and it involves my neighbours hearing this on loop at 2am. Want the Guitar Pro file and the original video? They're waiting on my Patreon.
